So, life has been crazy, upon coming home from Ireland to life and school and over 700 emails and making a major life decision (more on that later!!)….. so, here is a ghettoized version of my End of the Week news! Read what you like… I think it is all interesting….even though there are no fun pictures to entice you….
I can’t believe it is already Friday. This last week has been a lovely one, with my friend Michelle coming to visit (see last post). So, here is an abbreviated end of the week news, just some of the things that came on my radar this week!
So, this week has been vacation week, and I can’t believe it is already over. I got the week off of field ed and my two best friends were going to come visit. Unfortunately, one of them got a job last minute and couldn’t make it, but the other one did make it, and we had a blast this week. So, I present to you, Michelle Andrews!
About our week- we relaxed, a lot. We watched a lot of movies, including a horrible one, and a really depressing one. We went to the spa and got massages, and made two visits to the Eno River rock quarry. We ate a lot of delicious food. It was a great week.
About Michelle- Michelle and I have been friends since our freshman year of college. We caused a lot of trouble together, along with our friend Joanie, in our psych classes, and just in general. Michelle is an amazing artist (she just got her Masters in Art Therapy and Counseling), and has a great mastery in understanding and caring for people. She has a beautiful heart. Michelle is now married to Howard, who, from what I know of him, is a great guy, and they are expecting their first child in December! It was fun to see Michelle with her little baby bump!
Michelle, it was great to hang out this week. I love you friend!
I just figured out that if I want to be able to embed videos on my website, I have to pay 60 bucks a year. Lame. Most of the time, wordpress is awesome. But sometimes…….
#6- This one won’t mean a lot if you aren’t Episcopal and don’t follow all the stuff that’s been happening with the Episcopals and the Anglicans and the gays…. But, if you have, and you know about the secret committee that they have to study same-sex relationships, this is pretty funny.
#5- Amazon zaps purchased copies of Orwell’s 1984 and Animal Farm from Kindles. Sooooo ironic.
#4-Immensely prominent black scholar is arrested in front of his own house. Shameful. And we try and say racism doesn’t exist in this country anymore. Riiiigggght.
#3- Friend Hillary’s blog on individuality and community. Good words.
#2- Rachel Maddow and Pat Buchanan- For Pat, white men are the smartest and most capable, wow. Maddow wipes the floor with him…..I tried very hard to get this video and this video to embed in my website, but to no avail. I have yet to figure out how to do it…… so click on the links, cause they are SOMETHING.
# 1: Elizabeth Clift’s blog. I read Elizabeth’s blog on a regular basis, but I went back and read some of her stuff this week, and it was very very meaningful to me. Check it all out—the ones that hit me this week were Summer and Like Paper.
“I thought of that old joke, this guy goes to see a psychiatrist and says hey, doc, my brother is crazy, he thinks he is a chicken. The doctor says, well, why don’t you turn him him in? Guy says, well, I would, but I need the eggs.
Well, I guess that’s pretty much how I feel about relationships. You know, they are totally irrational and crazy and absurd, but I guess we keep going through it cause most of us need the eggs.” – Woody Allen, Annie Hall
“I wonder if I’ve been changed in the night? Let me think. Was I the same when I got up this morning? I almost think I can remember feeling a little different. But if I’m not the same, the next question is ‘Who in the world am I?’ Ah, that’s the great puzzle! But it’s no use going back to yesterday, because I was a different person then.” – Alice in Alice in Wonderland
